Early Life and Education
Joe Wilson was born in Charleston, South Carolina, on July 31, 1947. He attended the University of South Carolina, where he earned a bachelor's degree in political science in 1969. He then attended the University of South Carolina School of Law, where he earned his Juris Doctor degree in 1972.
Professional Career
After graduating from law school, Wilson worked as an attorney in private practice. He served as a member of the South Carolina House of Representatives from 1985 to 2001. He was elected to the United States House of Representatives in 2001, representing South Carolina's 2nd congressional district.
Political Career
Wilson is a member of the Republican Party. He is a conservative and has been a vocal critic of the Obama administration. He is a member of the House Armed Services Committee and the House Judiciary Committee.
Personal Life
Wilson is married and has two children. He is a member of the First Baptist Church of Lexington, South Carolina.
